Yes the frenzy of the game soon wore off. I gave up playing at the boss in Japan for TR7, those stupid phrases repeated over and over again and the craptacular plot wore me down. What a shame. Thank god I own the other TR's (besides TR6 - I own it but refuse to play it again - didn't finish that one either) and can get all misty eyed and nostalgic for better days whilst playing them.
|
[Spoilers (and snarkism) below..] Oh c'mon, I beat the Japanese boss in about 90s by simply running in, going up the ladder, then chasing him with the shotgun. When he fired something, I rolled, jumped, whatever.. I got hit 3-4 times, healed twice I think. Admittedly, it was on the weenie level. But he was easy. Unless you have it on the harder levels (which I doubt, considering how easy you give up on games), I can't imagine he is really that difficult.

I do love a backhanded insult.
I had it on Medium level of difficulty. I ran up the ladder and chased him
with a gun, he killed me - I tried several times to "hide" and other
tactics, the "sound loop taunting" wore me down after a while.
I fail to see why I should play a game that I don't enjoy. I have better
things to do with my time and to be quite honest, something is missing from
the last 2 TR games, I just find them boring and pointless.
Crap storylines, crap characters and mindless shooting and a feeling of
going through the motions to get to the next level. The earlier TR games I
truly was interested in what Lara was doing and loved the exploration and
the feeling of making a discovery with each new level/area.
I'm sorry that my not liking the game seems to peeve you, but as I said, I
wasn't really enjoying the game that much to start with and the stupid Jap
guy saying the same things over and over with a mind numbing "shoot him
before he shoots me" mentality tipped the scales.
I'm glad you like the game, I do not. I really REALLY wanted to.

The snake ticks me off, as if you get off a little bit it seems you gotta start over as he seems to keep hitting you, but the other bosses were easy. Now, it took me a while to figure out how to get the ball things with Amanda's Monster but once I got one to go up there and stick the others were easy, in fact I think once I got one to stick, I got the others in the try-after (got moving too slow to get them all right after). The guy in the temple (forget his name) was also kind of a pain, but I just kept running backwards circles and shooting the whole time.. When he went up to heal, I pulled down one or two ledges, shot him again. He probably took the most time. The dragon ticked me off, it took me the most time of any of the bosses, but it was the end.. Took probably 10 tries, I kept dying really easy, then for some reason the last time I kept avoiding the fire and managing to stab it.

Do ya remember the offshoot to the left right as you first meet the bats?
It took me the longest time to find a way onto that ledge, it's been so long
I can't remember now if I found a way up or read about it in a cheat. Funny
thing tho, I found a 2nd way up that occures more often than the original.
Go figure, still love the game, I listen to the soundtrack music from
TR1-TR4 on my car CD player going to work (the CD trun comes around about
every 1-1/2 weeks, 'cause I got a lot of CD's to play even with a 60 mile
round trip.) ^_^

I think it was the console-itis that the developers fell into that runined
the last two Tomb Raiders. Lara was suppose to be about figuring out a way
past/out of somewhere, not about timed runs, loopy bosses <grin> and so on.
While the graphics and scenery were fabulous in TR6 and TR7, (skipping the
unfinished parts in TR6), the game play was hideous, and I gave up at
Amanda's monster (don't know why, the Japanese boss did not give me as much
trouble as the others, even the bike leap to get to him was tougher). ^__^

Yes agreed. Maybe I gave up too quick that day, but I'm back at uni so no
time to play games til the holidays
I'll have another go, perhaps.
Agreed on the graphics, it truly was beautiful and Lara looked fabulous
especially her facial animations etc.
