Default PS3 Call Of Duty 3 running at 30 FPS, Xbox 360 version at 60 FPS

"The graphics in the PS3 version look pretty damn good. The game
doesn't run as smoothly as the Xbox 360 version (not yet, anyway- it
runs at 30 frames per second instead of 60), but it still moves very
fast and has lots of detail. Streams of light shined through the trees
as you made your way through the forest, creating a beautiful sense of
ambience. The animation is very detailed as well. Hit a soldier in a
non-vital area and they'll crouch down momentarily before deciding to
shoot at you again. The visual effects are solid, although it would
have been nice to see another stage to compare it with."

Hopefully the developers will be able to get the PS3 version optimized
before launch. Anyway, 30 or 60 FPS would work for me. I would prefer
a "steady" 30 FPS over a stuttering 60 FPS any day. I loved COD2 on
the 360.

Big surprise. I think a lot of people are underestimating how interesting
the sixaxis controller will be though.

Wow that's amazing!
Other than Burnout and Ridge Racer I didn't think the 360 was capable of
running games with 60 frames.
My biggest complaint about the 360 up until now (other than hardware
problems galore) is how poor frame rates are on the system. It's nice to
know that some developers can actually squeeze out 60 frames once in a
while.

Same here. I think the first year of the 360 has produced more great games
than any other console launch I can remember, but you're 100% right about
the frame rate. I think a lot of that is just "first gen" games, though.
If anything that comes out in 2007 has shitty frames, that is the dev's
laziness.

CoD2 does, as does Chromehounds, the Sonic demo, and Amped 3.

I can't disagree. There've been more than a couple titles that had me
yelling "Booooo!" when the frame rate plummeted. Quake IV was one, and
Blazing Angels was another.

I know there were more then just BR & RR. I was just venting.

I could add more titles to this list than I care to mention. That is the sad
part. If people are going to start flame threads frame rate and hardware
failure is 2 places I would not bring up because MS doesn't exactly have a
stellar record in those 2 areas with the 360 ;-)

Nothing new here. Goldeneye 64 did this ten years ago.

Quake IV plummets on the PC as well on a good system. Not initially,
but after an hour of playing, then exiting the game and re-entering
fixes it (lotsa swap file thrashing). So I'm guessing it's a bad memory
leak somewhere in the game. With the newest patch installed btw. Worth
the exiting/re-entering though, it's a great game.
