Can anyone tell me how to embed a working URL link (to a webpage)
inside a post?

Just add the URL as text, most Usenet clients will pick up the string
and convert it to a clickable link. Just make sure there is a space in
front and behind it, else other characters could get attached to the
url and make it fail.

There is also a way to send HTML encoded messages, but that is heavily
frowned upon in text based newgroups (like this one) where plain-text
is the way to go...

To help people with older usenet clients, it's still good behaviour to
enclose the url like this: <url>, most clients will then show the link
unbroken.

Indeed, because it's actually a violation of the usenet standard.

Just copy and paste the URL from the address bar of your browser,
into a post. Also, if it's one of those ultra-long URL's that may
wrap over several lines, I recommend using www.tinyurl.com to
shrink it down to a nice, short manageable size.
