btw, I could surely remember that tr1 like much more nicer in the days i Glidos web site also has some visual upgrades for TR1 you can download.
|
I'm not impressed by that upgrades, because the colors look a lot different than the old ones and that old coloring is the one i am used to and i liked that. I dont like the new colors they used for the textures. That would be like playing another game and i dont want that. thanks for the tip though.

A lot of Quest's textures are very close to the originals, but just very
much
higher resolution. I'm jut uploading them now, to here:

I must say i disagree, the colors are a bit different and the new textures
of for example the Caves are unrestless and more greenish. That wasnt the
fact with the old texture. The overall balance and color was better suited
for the game, the only new thing about the new texture is that its sharper
but unbalanced. More peace in the textures and colors closer to the the
original would have been better. It's a nice job but it could be better.
There are some good things about it in several levels, for example the
ancient walls and nice greenery in lost valley, but then again its overall
very unrestless also in lost valley. The problem is I guess that there is
too much contrast when you put all the textures together. In fact when you
look at one texture in for example photoshop it lookes pretty good, when all
put together it is a bit too sharpmaybe too detailed.
It must have been a hell of a job, but sorry im not so impressed by it.

You are talking about Quest's textures? The way you said "THE new textures"
makes me wonder if you realised there are actually four different authors
creating textures for various levels. I was just mentioning Quest's
textures
because a lot of his are particularly close to the originals.
For me, I guess I prefer the ones that do break from the originals a bit.
Some
of it is just stunning.

Yep, thats what im talking about, i used your link and downloaded those
textures.
Most of that textures (from the Quest link) were much to unrestless to the
eye. I dont say its all bad, it has good things (sometimes looks pretty
nice) and bad things (unrestless to the eye, a bit other colors than the
original).
btw, im using dgvoodoo now, i guess they wont work with that glidewrapper. I
havent solved the speedproblem of dgvoodoo yet (even with tips from the
dgvoodoo site) but if i do im sure im gonna play tr1 again.

I quite agree, Those first few levels textures represent my first ( as my download page at www.tombraiderxtra.com says) attempt at trying something like this. the first levels are over four years old , and are definitely unfinished . I n the forums at www.vogons.zetafleet.com I have stated much the smae things about my early textures as you have here . the lost valley level is really unbalanced , and the qual level isa simply a sketchbook eyebleeding color fest , but...
a number of things hampered the earlier textures- at teh time glidos was using magic brown to simulate transparency ( which cause dall the colors to look massively different from photoshop to game ) and also caused teh glide "wash-out" to be much more pronounced , so a most of those older textures were catered to this early development environment(somewhere about the middle of the Folly level I was able to start comparing the histograms between the new and the old textures ) .

agreed, I really didn't know ( at that POint )how to get what was in my head to appear in the texture and the resultant textures clearly show my maddness (as in crazy chaos) and overdiddling.
YES, Especially due to the earliest method of finding and organizing the texture/texture fragments ( thanks again paul for making all of that the thing of ancient nightmares

No need to be sorry , wish more people knew how to man-up as the cowboys say.
At any rate if you ever happen across this thread again please take the time to look at the textures for the "mines" level . personally , though not exactly like the originals I thin kit's where i started to "figure It out" if you take my mean in g
