[DP] New Pokémon
Thought I'd list the new Pokémon known so far. So, if I've left any out,
please correct me.
1 - Munchlax, baby form of Snorlax.
2 - Lucario, new Steel/Fighting type.
3 - Weavil, evolution of Sneasle.
4 - Mime Jr., baby form of Mr.Mime.
5 - Bonsly, baby form of Sudowoodo.
6 - Manaphy, new Water type.
7 - Tamanta, baby form of Mantine.
8 - Perap, new Normal/Flying type.
9 - Buoysel, new Water type.
10 - Diaruga, new Pokémon for the cover of Diamond (possibly a legendary).
11 - Parukia, new Pokémon for the cover of Pearl (possibly a legendary).
12 - Cherimu, new Grass type.
13 - Pachirisu, new Electric type.
14 - Dorapion, new Poison/Dark type.
15 - Erekiburu, evolution of Electabuzz.
16 - Rozureido, evolution of Roselia.
17 - Korobooshi, possibly related to Illumise and/or Volbeat.
18 - Naetle, new Grass starter.
19 - Hikozaru, new Fire starter.
20 - Pochama, new Water starter.
Personally, I'm looking forward to the new evolutions more than new babies.
Although Bonsly looks incredible, I don't really understand the mentality
for creating worse Pokémon to plonk at the start.
Weavil and Erekiburu look incredible, in my view, but I'm less convinced by
Rozureido. Looks a bit sinister for my taste.
I like the starters, although for a penguin Pokémon, Pochama looks a bit
boring. Here's hoping evolution treats it well. Is the implication here
that it'll acquire an Ice sub-type? Let's hope not, with the amount of
Ice/Water Pokémon being high enough as it is.
Hikozaru is probably the most interesting starter, though, being the first
monkey-like Pokémon since Mankey. What's the betting it becomes a gorilla?
Dorapion really appeals to me. A Poison type immune to Psychic, as well as
a Dark type that takes normal damage from Fighting? This is one to watch,
in my view. Looks cool, too. Some people have speculated that Dorapion's
related to Gligar. They're wrong, though, and that's all to the good, since
Gligar's too brilliant to be made to evolve.

An interesting idea, but not really Nintendo's way of doing things. Their
games are all self-contained.
They've dabbled with expansion pack ideas in the past, and not entirely
successfully. Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Master Quest, for instance, which
replaced all the familiar dungeons with more challenging ones, was a nice
idea in principle, but it failed to inspire the general public. The
hardware released to fascilitate Master Quest and other big games - the
64DD - was released only in Japan, and was a commercial failure even there.
Master Quest wasn't even released in the end, even though it was practically
complete. It was later released as a bonus disc with Wind Waker, of course.
Which isn't to say that Nintendo would never consider add-ons again. With
the Virtual Console on the Wii, and the ability to download games and such
even when the console's on stand-by, it wouldn't be unfeasible to imagine
them offering bonus areas, items and such for existing games.
However, based on their track record, I don't imagine they'll be releasing a
host of expantion packs á la The Sims any time soon.

Manafi makes me think of MarineAngemon from Digimon.

This the parrot? The ability to record your voice for the Blabber
technique sounds funny to me. That sounds like hours of fun. I bet a
lot of people will choose to make their Peraps swear, but I think I'll
make mine say something like, "Where da white women at?"

9 - Buoysel, new Water type.

The otter? It's cute. Maybe I'll go with Hikozaru and to put both on
my team.

10 - Diaruga, new Pokémon for the cover of Diamond (possibly a legendary). 11 - Parukia, new Pokémon for the cover of Pearl (possibly a legendary).

I'll take Diamond, then. Parukia's got a phallus for a head.
Quote:
|
12 - Cherimu, new Grass type.
|
I'm looking at the page on your site, and you have two completely
different sprites for it. Kinda looks like it transforms into an
eggplant or something?
Quote:
|
13 - Pachirisu, new Electric type.
|
Ha! An electric squirrel! I don't know if I want this over Elekible,
though.
Quote:
|
14 - Dorapion, new Poison/Dark type.
|
Well, it certainly looks like it evolves from Gligar...
Quote:
|
15 - Erekiburu, evolution of Electabuzz.
|
The word "Bugbear" comes to mind when I see this, but I don't know what
a bugbear looks like. Still, I like these better than the Electric
types from Ruby and Sapphire, and I definitely like having an electric
on my team.

|
16 - Rozureido, evolution of Roselia.
|
Rosereed looks ridiculous. I don't know if I'd call it "sinister,"
though. I think it looks more like a Roselia put on a wig and a mask
to try and impress the ladies or play superhero.
Quote:
|
17 - Korobooshi, possibly related to Illumise and/or Volbeat.
|
Certainly looks like it. Maybe a joint prevolution, like Tyrouge?
Quote:
|
18 - Naetle, new Grass starter. 19 - Hikozaru, new Fire starter. 20 - Pochama, new Water starter.
|
I'm not sure which of these three I want, though I'm thinking of going
with Hikozaru or Pochama. I'll bet Pochama's evolutions look better
than Hikozaru's though.

Yes, the one that has a musical note design.

|
I agree with those sentiments. The idea that your own voice confuses a
Pokémon - that could lead to some funny situations. I do wonder if the
voice sample will be treated in some way - made higher in pitch or suchlike.
Quote:
|
9 - Buoysel, new Water type. The otter? It's cute. Maybe I'll go with Hikozaru and to put both on my team.
|
Just a shame that it's yet another Water type. It looks like a Normal type
too - I sort-of wish they'd made it Water/Normal. Not particularly useful,
perhaps, but more interesting at least.
Quote:
|
10 - Diaruga, new Pokémon for the cover of Diamond (possibly a legendary). 11 - Parukia, new Pokémon for the cover of Pearl (possibly a legendary). I'll take Diamond, then. Parukia's got a phallus for a head.
|
This is indeed an issue. My girlfriend wants Diamond, though, so I'll be
getting Pearl.
Quote:
|
12 - Cherimu, new Grass type. I'm looking at the page on your site, and you have two completely different sprites for it. Kinda looks like it transforms into an eggplant or something?
|
My site? As in, www.pkmn.net? I can only see one image myself.
Still, I'm interested in its Trouble Seed attack, which transforms a
Pokémon's ability into Insomnia. Useful against Pokémon with
uber-abilities.
Quote:
|
13 - Pachirisu, new Electric type. Ha! An electric squirrel! I don't know if I want this over Elekible, though.
|
I fully expect it to be yet another mundane Electric type. Elekible is
bound to be a better Pokémon.
Not that stats are everything, of course. Ahem.
Quote:
|
14 - Dorapion, new Poison/Dark type. Well, it certainly looks like it evolves from Gligar...
|
Do you think so? Apart from the colour scheme (which is quite common for
Poison types) and some claws, I don't see a resemblance at all. Not to
mention that Gligar, like Dorapion, has a unique type combo. I don't
realistically see them evolving their only Ground/Flying, and particularly
into a creature which is neither Ground NOR Poison.
Quote:
|
15 - Erekiburu, evolution of Electabuzz. The word "Bugbear" comes to mind when I see this, but I don't know what a bugbear looks like. Still, I like these better than the Electric types from Ruby and Sapphire, and I definitely like having an electric on my team.
|
Agreed. Electrics have been short of inspiration for some time.
Quote:
|
16 - Rozureido, evolution of Roselia. Rosereed looks ridiculous. I don't know if I'd call it "sinister," though. I think it looks more like a Roselia put on a wig and a mask to try and impress the ladies or play superhero.
|
It's more sinister than Roselia, was my point. I like sweet little Roselia
(a Pokémon clearly designed to be trained by Elsa, in my view). I don't
want her to become something dark and grinning. Particularly if said
evolution looks a bit rubbish.
Quote:
|
17 - Korobooshi, possibly related to Illumise and/or Volbeat. Certainly looks like it. Maybe a joint prevolution, like Tyrouge?
|
It'd make a lot of sense. Evolves based on gender, then, presumably. I
can't imagine why it'd need to exist, but then, I think the same of all baby
forms.
Quote:
|
18 - Naetle, new Grass starter. 19 - Hikozaru, new Fire starter. 20 - Pochama, new Water starter. I'm not sure which of these three I want, though I'm thinking of going with Hikozaru or Pochama. I'll bet Pochama's evolutions look better than Hikozaru's though.
|
Hikozaru's will probably look like a gorilla. I can't quite picture what
Pochama will become.
Still, my choice will be based on my girlfriend's and housemate's starters -
I'm not too bothered about which I choose, so I'll leave it to fate and
choose whichever one's left.
