Default Moving Q3 between PCs

I had Q3 installed on my PC. Then I got a new PC. My CD is
scratched and won't read any more. I tried copying over all of
the data files from the old PC. It works file for single player.

I then downloaded the latest point release and tried to play on
the Internet. However, the server connect fails saying I don't
have the right server protocol. For some reason, Q3 seems to
be telling the server that I don't have the point release installed,
even though I do.

Is there some registry setting or other procedure that I need to
follow, when copying an installation from one PC to another?

The protocol error means you still don't have the proper point release,
so you're doing something else wrong. I've gone through several
iterations of moving Quake III Arena to new machines and have had no
such problems.

a copy/paste is all it normally requires

make sure you are installing the point release to the right
directory...you shouldn't have had to reinstall anything anyway
