I'd like your thoughts on this. It looks like a cross between Far Cry,
GTA and a strategic revolution game.

It's most bizazre. If you've no info on it at all you might want to
start here:

According to the activity on the GTA newsgroup, it's a huge game with
precious little content. It's more like an arcade game (realism right out
the window) with a strategic twist.

Huge empty spaces like that might be good for an online war, but the really
big CS maps aren't popular so I don't see that it will be long-lived in
terms of online play (assuming it has the ability - GTA doesn't, not "out of
the box" at least).

I think that HL2 and its derivatives are still the standard by which others
should be measured in terms of looks, and single- and multi-player gaming.
In terms of scale, GTA:SA struck the best balance between area and content.

Just my opinion, of course...

Hmmm... he jumps through helicopter rotors - and my doctor warned me quite
sternly that that is not good for ones health.

Wierd game - looks like a lot of fun, but also looks completely ridiculous.
Wtf with the jumping from one chopped to another? Is he bionic?

I think what's most incongruous is the realism of the scenery coupled with
the utter Looney-Tunes-ness of the game play. Maybe they should have gone
for the TFC2 look...

Cross between Far Cry, GTA and MDK, not much strategy or skill
involved.

Stunning graphics on the 360, unfortunately the graphics don't look as
good on the PC. It isn't as interesting or funny as GTA, but there is
a hell of a lot of freeform fun to be had, I love it so far.

I suspect that since it looks so very close to GTA visually that the GTA
lot expect another GTA. The objective of the game is to incite
revolution not rob banks. This interests me.

I wasn't looking at it from a multiplayer perspective. I'm only
interested in the single player.

It looks massively better than any of the GTA games, the best graphics
I have seen in any game. It is a shame it doesn't have the great
gameplay of a GTA game, but it will keep me happy for a while passing
time until GTA4 comes out in a year or so.

I've been playing this game and I'm not impressed at all thus far.

Yeah, I kind of agree. The objective of the game isn't really to incite
revolution, it's to follow the onscreen prompts in a timely manner and
do whatever bit of mayhem you're asked to do next. I like the more
realistic 'Far Cry' style visuals (although I'm going to need a better
pc to play it on), but the AI and weapon balance is laughable. I just
stood in the middle of a platoon of government troops trying to work
out how to switch weapons, while they shot at me from all sides. Slowly
my health bar went down, as I turned, switched from fist to gun to dual
wield, whereas each shot I fired took a guard out in one.

Except for the target boss, of course - I emptied clip after clip into
his face from point blank range, with nothing happening (to be fair, he
was doing the same to me).

The selling point is the freeform gameplay, where you can use any
method of transport to achieve your aim. In reality (in the demo,
anyway), using anything but the predetermined vehicle will result in
mission failure because of the time limits involved. The same is true
of GTA for the most part, of course, but that somehow manages to make
the limitations fun. This was just annoying - back to last checkpoint
yet again. ho hum.

Fantastic graphics engine engine, though.. I'd love a real game to be
overlaid on that island.
