You deserved it, what a joke of a performance from England. This is one
time that you can put nearly all the blame on the manager.
In summary:
- Why chance tactics in a name against such a strong side that has home
advantage. None of the side play in that formation in a weekly basis, so
it'll always remain strange to them.
- We had five defenders and two defensive midfielders on the pitch. Gary
Neville is not a wing-back in a million year, he would be a natural
centre-half with more height.
- Lampard was dreadful, again. Carrick was slow and cumbersome, again.
Parker lacked quality and was playeed out of position, for the first
time.
- Yet to see Terry as a true leader and I don't think he shows his club
form for country, as in most Chelsea players to be fair.
- Crouch is not an international player, he should be left warming the
bench until we need to call upon a freak factor and scare the defence a
little.
Croatia looked a really good side, very impressed in the most part, nice
to see a team looking to attack so much. Not sure if they'll be able to
put up such a performance in the away tie, but we'll see I guess.
PS. Bringing Venables back was a massive mistake by the way, out of the
game too long.

because frank lampard must play, didn't you know?

scott parker is NOT, repeat NOT a defensive midfielder. he has been
immense for us this season when given, funnily enough, a role similar
to frank lampard's. he is a box to box player, not one who just sits
in front of the defense.

yup, carrick looked off pace, as on saturday. parker was, as you say,
told to sit back, which is wasting him tbh. lapard doesn't even bother
mentioning.

i dunno, joe cole is the only one who seems to do it for england on a
semi-regular basis. terry seems to be suffering from the weight of the
captaincy, if you ask me. he hasn't played anywhere as good as we know
he can.

crouch is good against shit teams. he's shown this for england time
and again. he also can't play with rooney. with them two up top we
have no pace or penetration behind the back four at all. rooney likes
to drop deep and play the sort of sheringham role, crouch just ambles
about and turns up 5 minutes late for crosses. why defoe didn't play i
don;t know, cos crouch did fuck all at the weekend as well.

croatia did look good, and they deserved the win. nobody can argue
with that. i just wish mcclaren would realise that the same old "how
do you play gerrard and lampard in the same 442 formation" problem can
only be solved by realising that you can't. it's one or the other,
frankly. and it wouldn't be lampard right now, he's a fucking waste of
space.

no, mcclaren is the mistake, venables is his excuse. mcclaren never
convinced me as boss of boro, he has the tactical awareness of kevin
keegan and graeme souness combined.

Crouch is very much like the mighty mighty Shaun Goater. On face value
doesn't look much use, can't run/pass/dribble/shoot etc. Never looks
like being good enough whatever level he's playing at.
However, like The Goat, Crouch has one redeming feature.
He scores goals. Fuck knows how he does it, but he scores, and his
record for england (what is it 10 in 12 now?) speaks for it's self!

he has scored goals, but he's scored pretty much all of them against
shite teams.
he'd be handy to have as a sub, give you a different option for the
last 20 minutes up front. if andy johnson or dean ashton were fit, i'd
rather have one of them start with rooney than crouch.

As they talked about on MOTD last night, we need strikers who are
looking to make runs behind the defence - as Defoe did when he came
on. Both strikers collected the ball with their backs to the goal -
30/40 yards out!!
Not really watched much of Johnson & Ashton, but do they score their
goals by taking balls from over the top?
Even being a Chelsea fan, and a Lampard fan at that, he needs to get
back to his best form playing for Chelsea, and give Gerrard a run in
the middle.
One thing I don't understand - why don't they try a 4-3-3 formation,
and forget about using the wingers. Get Rooney to drop off a front 2,
and then work in an almost diamond formation - with the midfield 3 a
mixture of Carrick/Gerrard/Lampard/Parker.
Only a thought - but could work! Hmmm - think I should get back on FM
and see if that would work!! haha! Haven't played it in yonks!!!

I especially like the Borat commercial behind the goal, it's comedy all
over the place. ;-)
