The real question here is which merc? Currently I'm using an act 2 combat merc (I like the Prayer aura) with some halfway decent equipment. As yet, I don't have an Insight for him which I am definitely going to want. But is this the best merc for my needs in the end? Anybody got an appropriate polearm for a clev 27 merc? Str 88, dex 67. I've got the runes I need and I have socket quests to use. Would I be wasting them on a weapon this particular merc can use or should I wait?Yeah, I'm replying to myself. I just looked at the requirements forInsight and I find I can make it on a staff as well! Should I use adifferent weapon for my merc and make insight for my sorc?

That'd be a novelty; not many people do that.
Insight has a minimum requirement of clvl27, due to the Sol in it. If you
make Insight in a 4 socket Poleaxe (or an ethereal one if you have one)
you'll get a weapon which your Act 2 Merc can wield without much problems
at clvl27, and which will last him until well into NM... Failing that, I'd
gamble Pikes, and hope for a nice rare. That what I usually use until
clvl27.
Your sorc should preferable use a nice Orb, or Spirit Sword in the one
hand, and a nice caster shield (Lidless Wall, I personally prefer Spirit)
in the other hand.
Act 2 mercs are very useful companions for a sorc. Which one you use
depends on personal preferences. Keep in mind you get a double healing
rate with an Act 2 Prayer dude wielding an Insight; I rather like that so
much, my clvl92 Li sorc is still accompanied by one.

Patrick.
