Playstation3 playing ONLY Playstation2 games
The Playstation3 should only be backwards compatible with Playstation2
games. For it to be fully backwards compatible for both previous
consoles wouldn't make much sense. Who nowadays still plays Playstation
1 games? Once in a while, I do but 99.99% of my game time is spent
playing Playstation2 games.
The majority of people who will be buying the Playstation3 will be
playing it for the newest games & they'll still be playing Playstation2
games for a while cause when the Playstation3 does get released there
won't be too much to choose from for the newest games-AT FIRST.
Each console that Sony or anybody else makes, should be made to be
backwards compatible with the older console that it's replacing. To be
fully backwards compatible with all previous generations would be a
waste of resources that should go toward other things.

A lot of people still play PS1 games. I'm replaying the Tomb Raider
series right now, and I've still got PS1 games I never finished buy want
to someday especially some of the long RPGs. And what about people who
like the video versions of board games like Monopoly, Scrabble, and
Life. I don't think they should have to keep buying new versions every
time a new console comes out.

PS3 allows for PS1 games to be played with FSAA in 1080p with Dolby Pro
Logic IIx 7.1 surround sound?
I'd fucking play them.

Im still playing Street Puzzle Fighter 2 (Turbo Edition). I guess i'll
have to keep the old ps2 around just to play that.

Sony have said this for a long time. They have also said when the PS3 is
released they will no longer produce PS1 games as they only want two systems
at a time.

I sold my PSX to help pay for my PS2 and will probably sell my PS2 to
pay for a PS3 when it comes out. So, if PS3 were only backwards
compatible with PS2, I would either have to keep my PS2 just for the
sake of playing PSX games or go pick up a used PSX. I don't play a lot
of PSX games anymore but I would still like to be able to play some
classics like Chrono Cross. There is no reason for such a powerful
system not to emulate something as simple as PSX. Hell, the thing
could probably render everything in 1080p with raytracing! This whole
thread is retarded anyway. Has full PS2 and PSX backwards
compatibility already been announced?
